Oil Transfer Pumps
Our range of oil transfer pumps is suitable for the transfer of clean and waste oil with high viscosities.
Oil Transfer Pumps can be used for transferring a wide range of both clean and waste oil types from one container to another. In the case of a waste oil pump it can be used to transfer the waste oil from several small containers to one larger one for easier transportation.
Using an oil transfer pump
When using an oil transfer pump it is important that care is taken when transferring the pump to and from the containers to avoid spillage. Even chemically inert oils can be hazardous in the form of both fire and slipping hazards. We recommend using a pump wall bracket for all our drum pumps, but that are particularly useful when using them as an oil drum transfer pump. The wall bracket allows the pump to be stored upright and any oil still within the oil drum pump can be allowed to drain into a suitable receptacle.
Air Operated Oil Pumps
In some circumstances it may be preferable to use an oil drum transfer pump fitted with an air motor. These can be used instead of an electric oil pump to reduce the risk of fire or explosion.
Manual Pump for oil drum
Although there are several manual oil pumps available, this is not something we offer. We believe that manual pumps or hand pumps for oil drums are not a cost effective method of transferring liquids in a commercial situation. Using a manual pump for an oil drum can be time consuming and inefficient. We offer a range of cost effective electric alternatives that quickly pay for themselves through increased efficiency and reduced waste.
Information on oil transfer pumps
When selecting an oil transfer pump it is important to select a pump that can cope with the viscosity of the oil. It should be remembered that the viscosity of the oil may increase as the temperature decreases. The EF range of drum pumps from Finish Thompson are generally suitable for most vegetable oils at ambient. However, for thicker oils it may be necessary to choose a pump from the PF series.
Information on waste oil pumps
Waste oil is a common issue in various situations. This ranges from industrial applications such as garages or manufacturing sites to commercial kitchens. Deal with waste oil can be difficult as it can be both messy and potentially dangerous. Using a waste oil pump can make the disposal and storage prices much easier and far more practical.
How do I choose the oil transfer pumps?
The most important consideration is probably the viscosity of the oil being pumped. The PF series of rum pumps are suitable for viscosities of up to 2000 cP, but that does depend on the motor fitted. When using an air motor the viscosity is limited to 300 cP. Consideration should also be made to the chemical compatibility of the oil with the pump material. There is a chemical compatibility chart in the useful info section of this website.
What are the applications of an oil pump?
An oil barrel pump can be used to transfer various types of oils from bulk containers into small drums, bottles or into a production location. For example into food production equipment such as fryers or into industrial machinery or vehicles. They can also be used to remove waste oil and transfer it to suitable containers for transportation to a reprocessing site.
