Chemical Transfer Pumps
We stock a range of chemical transfer pumps with different flow rates. Our chemical hand pump is useful in the manual dispensing of a wide range of chemicals.
Pumps for acids, alkalis, aggressive and corrosive liquids, flammable liquids, toxic liquids. Chemical transfer pumps come in a variety of designs, sizes and materials. These include centrifugal, gear, AODD and chemical barrel pumps. The full range of centrifugal and gear chemical transfer pumps offered by Michael Smith Engineers Ltd is shown on our main website. However, for low flow and/or portable chemical transfer applications we offer a range of Air Operated Double Diaphragm (AODD) and drum/barrel chemical transfer applications.
These would typically use for transferring chemicals from one size of container to another. Such as from an IBC to a barrel or drum. A chemical transfer pump can be sited in a fixed location, such as in a loading bay, or can be portable and moved around as required. The latter application would be typical for a manual chemical transfer pump such as a chemical drum pump.
If an Air Operated Chemical Transfer pump is required, then we can offer both AODD and air operated drum & barrel pumps.
Information on chemical transfer pumps
Michael Smith Engineers have been supplying chemical transfer pumps since we were founded in 1971. We have a huge depth of experience and knowledge that will ensure that we can offer you the best chemical transfer solution for your application. We can assist in not only choosing the correct pump type, but also the correct pump material, the correct seal material, and the correct drive option.
Whether you require a simple manual chemical transfer pump, a barrel emptying pump or a chemical barrel pump for container to container, we can offer the best solution for your chemical process.
What are the benefits of our chemical pump range?
Our range of chemical transfer pumps are available in a wide range of wetted materials including thermoplastics, stainless steel and high nickel alloys, and are ideal for handling and transferring aggressive, corrosive and hazardous liquids & chemicals.
What are the applications of chemical pumps?
For over 40 years, our chemical transfer pumps have been successfully pumping difficult liquids such as abrasive liquids, acids, bases, corrosives, flammables, inorganic solutions, liquids with entrained gases, organic liquids, slurries, solvents, toxic liquids, viscous and volatile liquids.
What are the types of portable chemical transfer pumps?
Chemical Drum Pumps (also called barrel pumps) are a very common portable chemical transfer pump option, ideal when you require intermittent operation. As the name would suggest, drum pumps are typically used to transfer liquids to and from drums or barrels, including 20L, 200L and IBCs. Air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps offer a simple to use, simple to maintain, leak-free operation. AODD pumps are available in several different materials of construction, depending on the type of liquid being pumped. As well as being a leak free option (very important when pumping hazardous chemicals), AODD pumps can run dry without any damage and are capable of self-priming from a dry start. AODD pumps are not the only air operated chemical transfer pump available as a chemical drum pump can be fitted with an air motor.
How do I select the right chemical pump?
The first option is to choose the type of pump best suited to your application. If you are simply intending to occasionally transfer liquids between containers then a drum pump may be the best option. These are also suitable if you require a chemical dispenser pump. If the application is more permanent and higher flows are required then an AODD pump should be considered. It is obviously important to select a pump and motor (if applicable) that will deliver the required flow. Finally it is vital that the correct pump material is selected. We offer chemical compatibility charts which can be used as a guide to select the optimal material for the chemical drum pump casing and associated wetted parts.
