AdBlue Drum and Barrel Transfer Pumps
AdBlue pump is an effective way to transfer AdBlue fluid. It can be mounted on storage tanks, vehicles, drums, or IBC containers for reliable dispensing.
Diesel exhaust fluid, or AdBlue, is an essential aspect of diesel engine operations. A 55-gallon drum electric transfer pump is integral to the handling of DEF. These pumps are ideal for portable AdBlue applications, an AdBlue Barrel Pump can be fitted with a battery powered motor for greater flexibility of operation. A polypropylene AdBlue Transfer pump fitted with a battery powered motor can be much more convenient for an operator to handle compared with a manual barrel pump.
Michael Smith Engineers Ltd is one of the UK's leading AdBlue Pump Suppliers and we realise that AdBlue requires careful handling. From construction sites, to commercial fleets, to agricultural equipment, equipment OEMs and operators need the right AdBlue Pumps for this job. Finish Thompson chemical resistant AdBlue Drum Pumps offer the ideal solution to improve safety and reduce costs for DEF applications. These applications include blending, dispensing systems, and container-to-container transfers. With shaft lengths of up to 57 inches (137 cm), the Finish Thompson AdBlue Pump range make ideal IBC transfer pumps.
AdBlue Pumps used in large vehicle fleet operations, efficient transfers made possible with an AdBlue Drum Pump can provide significant savings and enable operation expansion. AdBlue is often delivered in an IBC and an AdBlue IBC Pump can speed up transfer and dispensing from such containers. An AdBlue Dispensing pump can be easily and quickly moved from one IBC to another.
FAQs
What Is AdBlue?
AdBlue, also called Diesel Exhaust Fluid, is a solution consisting of high purity urea (typically crystalline) dissolved and suspended within de-ionised water. The ratio of the mix is approximately 32.5% urea and 67.5% de-ionised water. The AdBlue is injected as a fine mist into the exhaust stream where a chemical reaction takes place in the presence of a catalytic converter to convert the nitrogen oxides to inert nitrogen gas (air contains 78% nitrogen).
Why do you need an AdBlue transfer pump?
AdBlue is typically delivered in 200 litre barrels or IBCs. A pump is usually used to easily transfer the AdBlue from the delivery container to a smaller receptacle, or directly to the vehicles AdBlue tank. AdBlue contains urea which is corrosive to paint and skin, so and AdBlue transfer pumps is always recommended to prevent injury to personnel and damage to vehicle bodywork.
Can I use my diesel transfer pump for AdBlue?
No, it is essential that the AdBlue is not contaminated by other liquids. This would not only reduce the effectiveness of the AdBlue, but may also damage the vehicles catalytic convertor.
What are AdBlue plastic tanks made of?
As AdBlue is corrosive, it is essential that it is stored in suitably chemical resistant containers. This typically means either plastic or stainless steel.
Can cars use AdBlue pumps?
The AdBlue tank on a typical car is much smaller than that of a large commercial vehicle. Therefor the flow rate of an AdBlue barrel pump may be too high, potentially resulting in spillage and blowback
How do you use an AdBlue pump?
The AdBlue drum pump is inserted into the delivery container (drum/barrel/IBC etc.) and the dispensing hose is inserted into the truck's AdBlue tank. A simple on/off switch on the pump motor controls the pump. Some motor models also have variable speed controls.
Can I refill AdBlue myself?
Yes, on cars and vans the AdBlue filler cap typically be positioned next to the diesel filler cap. On commercial vehicles the AdBlue tank may be situated away from and higher then the diesel tank. This is one reason why an AdBlue Transfer Pump is recommended for large commercial vehicles.
What is the material of the AdBlue transfer pump?
Typically we would recommend the Finish Thompson EFP series polypropylene drum pumps for AdBlue. These are economical, relatively lightweight and chemically resistant to urea. However, for heavy duty, continuous applications it may be worth considering the EFS series in stainless steel. Barrel pumps are also available in PVDF, but this material offers no advantage for AdBlue.
